Texas State Board of Pharmacy rule 291.26 became effective in June of 2004. This rule specifies the required training for pharmacy technicians who compound sterile pharmaceuticals.

Pharmacy technicians who compound sterile pharmaceuticals must complete, through a single course, a minimum of forty (40) hours of didactic instruction and experiential training. The required training may be obtained in one of the following methods:

1. Completion of a structured on-the-job didactic and experience training which provides 40 hours of instruction and experience. Such training cannot be transfered to another pharmacy unless the pharmacies are under common ownership and control and use a common training program.

2. Completion of a recognized course sponsored by an ACPE approved provider, which provides 40 hours of instruction and experience.
